Today’s Holiday song title might make you think I was lying about not posting funny Holiday songs anymore this year but don’t be deceived. This is a wonderful song performed by the amazing Everly Brothers. Listen to the lyrics and it will bring a tear to your eye. Enjoy
Holiday Songs
So this is the last of our funny Holiday song posts….we will transition back to more “traditional” songs (as traditional as I get at least) for the final 10 leading up to Christmas Day. We will go out big with this gem from Eric Idle. You will either think this is the funniest thing you have ever heard or you will be insulted….but that’s the way we roll on this blog 🙂
Today’s funny Holiday music comes from the weird pairing of Steve Martin (spoken interlude), Billy Joel (piano and harmony vocals), and Paul Simon (lead vocals). The song was supposedly recorded during one of Billy Joel’s recording sessions. I think you will like it so take a few minutes out of your busy day and have a listen……
I was lucky enough to see one of Steve Martin’s shows during the mid-1970s and to this day it was the funniest thing I have ever seen!
This one is for all of my redneck friends here in Alabama….it’s a hoot!
It just occurred to me that readers of this post that don’t live in the southern United States might not have any idea what a “redneck” is. So, here are a couple of things to help with your education. First up, this is what Wikipedia says about the term…..
Redneck is a derogatory slang term used in reference to poor, uneducated white farmers, especially from the Southern United States. It is similar in meaning to cracker(especially regarding Georgia and Florida), hillbilly (especially regarding Appalachia and the Ozarks), and white trash (but without the last term’s suggestions of immorality).
By the 2000s, the term had expanded in meaning to refer to bigoted, loutish reactionaries who are opposed to modern ways, and has often been used to attack white Southern conservatives. The term is used broadly to degrade working class and rural whites that are perceived by urban progressives to be insufficiently liberal. At the same time, some Southern whites have reclaimed the word, using it with pride and defiance as a self-identifier.
