About

I am starting this blog to share my love of music and the history behind the music.  Posts will focus on:

  • Music from under appreciated older artists
  • Music with interesting, little known, back stories
  • Versions of great songs that you might not have heard (demos, alternate takes, live versions, covers, etc.)
  • New music from artists with little media exposure
  • Other miscellaneous topic that inspires me

On very good days we might manage to touch on two or more of the above in a single post.

I hope you enjoy the ride.  Please comment and let me know your thoughts.

  1. Dear Blogger,
I just dicovered your blog and was amazed about the kind of music and especially about the backgroundinformation. I like your choices, probably because much of it is coming from years in which i grew up and first learned to listen to English and US bands; i’m from the Netherlands. (I’m 62 now and still loving music from the 60’s and later even till now. Especially I’m a fan of Bruce Springsteen!)
I hope you will still going strong with this fantastic blog and i will follow you often.
    Kind regards,
    Gerard

  2. Hello, My name is Lonnnie Rutledge. I go by Lxnnnie. Yes that’s an x and 3 n’s. I am a singer/songwriter/producer/artist from Asbury Park NJ. I have been writing and recording since I was 10 years old. I am 34 now. I am an original 90’s bedroom recording artist that has never been properly discovered. My projects range from solo acoustic, mixed genre, psychedelic, electronic, garage rock, experimental, Lo-fi to Hi-fi and whatever. I call it “Schizodelic”. I have self-recorded a large catalogue of music that spans many genres thru the years. I have been active since 1994 but have never aggressively sought a record label or exposure until now. Below is my latest album “Playing Spades With Satan” that I have set up for FREE DOWNLOAD. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have plenty more music upon request. Please enjoy and let me know if you can help. Thank you. –Love Lxnnnie.

The Psych Country Revue plays with the fever of the honky tonks, the longing of the open road, and the pain of a broken heart, electrified and intensified to get your dancing shoes moving. Based in Corvallis, OR, PCR came together out of a shared love for the long-lost grit and honesty of country music and the need to create heart-rending, mind-bending psychedelic country rock. Come let PCR’s searing guitar licks, rubbly bass lines, devious drum beats and haunting organ and pedal steel melodies invigorate your soul while luscious vocals lead you on journeys of joy and sorrow through the ancient stomping grounds of country music.

  4. Hey Mike,

I was thumbing through some alt country blogs and found your personal blog! I figgered hey if he’s listening to the national and neil young I should say hey. My band and I just released this new alt country, rockabilly music video for our song I’m Goin’ Down, which premiered last week on My Old Kentucky Blog and featured on The 405. I was wondering, if you like it, if you’d wanna share it too?

You can watch with or without popcorn:

My name’s Eric Howl, and my new band is called The Way Down Lows. I’m Goin’ Down is a heartbreak/love song I wrote in New Orleans, Memphis, and Asheville, NC. We recorded it in an old, “interestingly” smelly house in a traditional style with the band all wacking away in the same room. When I visited Sun Studios couchsurfing in Memphis, and stood where Elvis recorded some of his first songs, I really was inspired that it was all done in just this big white room.

The sound is riffed on a lot from Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly and the Crickets, and Bob Dylan. The song has also been featured on Bearded Magazine, The 405, Alice 97.7 FM in Illinois and Mutiny Radio in SF.

I look forward to your response, and thank you for your time brother.
    Eric Howl
